Where: Meet at the Montoursville Walmart to carpool or at the preserve (GPS Address: 757 Pine Tree Rd, Hughesville, PA)
In the spirit of conservation, we invite birders to gather at the far end of the Montoursville Walmart (close to Wendy’s Restaurant) so that we may pool our resources, and carpool to the Pools! We will flock up there at 8:30 AM and then travel the ruff-ly 14 miles to the natural area. For those that are traveling from the east, or who have time constraints we plan to be at the parking area by 9 AM.
Directions: From Hughesville, travel North on US 220 to Picture Rocks. Turn left onto PA RT 864 West and proceed 2.8 miles. Turn Right onto Pine Tree Road and in 0.8 miles parking is on the right.
This 270 acre preserve is private land, but welcomes low impact activities such as walking and birding. How germane! In partnership with Merrill Linn Conservancy, the preserve has over 4 miles of trails that traverse woodlands, meadows, and the namesake vernal pools, remnants of the last ice ages. Our leader is Ted Loy, and we will walk together hoping to find a variety of species from woodpeckers to warblers. Our spring weather remains unsettled, but we won’t grouse about it and plan to meet rain or shine! Join me and our hawkgust leader, Ted as we spend an hour or two ostriching our legs and enjoying this wonderful gift of the Gross family. Hope to see you there!
