A Walk in Penn’s Woods

October 3, 2021 @ 11:00 am

Join Loyalsock State Forest staff on a Walk in Penn’s Woods at the Old Loggers Path! It has been 40 years since this beloved trail was complete and open for hiking and stories will be shared about John Eastlake, the forester who worked tirelessly to see the OLP and other area trails become reality. Meet at the parking area on Yellow Dog Road, where the OLP crosses, at 11:00 AM and bring proper footwear, water, and snacks. The hike is relatively flat but utilizes trails maintained to a standard to keep the primitive character and may pass some overgrown areas. This 4.5-5.0-mile loop will follow the Old Loggers Path, Doe Run Trail, Ellenton Grade, and Yellow Dog Trail. This hike should take about 3.5 hours. Participants will pass a scenic vista, walk on historic railroad grades, see unique plant communities, and observe recent timber management areas. Staff will discuss and explain interesting features along the way to educate on history, ecology, recreation, and natural resource management. We hope to see you there!
