SUMMARY:Taber Museum Hosts a Field Trip to Masten
DESCRIPTION:Williamsport; The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society is hosting a field trip to visit the footprint of the former lumber town of Masten on Saturday\, April 26\, 2025. The excursion to Masten will be led by David Richards\, author of Masten: Lumber Giant\, Charles W. Sones and the Story of a Pennsylvania Lumber Ghost Town\, 1906-1930. \nParticipants will gather in the parking lot of the Taber Museum\, 858 West Fourth Street\, Williamsport at 9:00am. As there is little parking in Masten\, carpooling will be necessary. There will be a limit of twenty people with a cost of $20 per person. The carpooling will stop at Trout Run for a rendezvous and then proceed to Masten. The tour of Masten will last approximately two/two and one half hours\, with a return to Trout Run. Option for an informal lunch at the Trout Run Hotel is possible\, although the lunch is not included in the $20 fee. A return to Williamsport at 3:00pm is anticipated. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the day.  As Richards states\, “I will try and use ‘transportation’ where possible to shorten the walking. There will be some uneven terrain. However\, most walking will be fairly level on existing Forest Roads.  There will be some uphill walking involved.” \nPayment secures your reservation. DESCRIPTION:In celebration of ‘National Train Day’\, the Taber Museum will be welcoming train enthusiasts to the Museum on Saturday\, May 10. All the visitor has to say is\, ‘It’s National Train Day’ to receive a half-priced admission to tour the museum. Admission prices are normally $9.50 for an adult; $7.50 for a senior citizen; $6.00 for children (ages 3-12) and $25.00 for a family (2 adults plus children).  LaRue C. Shempp’s collection of over 300 model trains is preserved at the Lycoming County Historical Society and is on permanent display. The Shempp collection includes many one-of-a-kind model trains and the exhibit also includes two layouts bringing to life the excitement one feels as the model trains speed around the tracks. \n
