DESCRIPTION:Dr. Christopher Pearl\, faculty member of Lycoming College\, will be speaking on his recently-published book Declarations of Independence: Indigenous Resilience\, Colonial Rivalries\, and the Cost of Revolution (The Revolutionary Age).  On July 4\, 1776\, two hundred miles northwest of Philadelphia\, on Indigenous land along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River\, a group of colonial squatters declared their independence. Known as the ‘Pine Creek Declaration of Independence’\, this document was drafted by the Fair Play Men and of course\, is overshadowed by the Declaration of Independence drafted in Philadelphia on the same date. Guests will enjoy this fascinating segment of history! Copies of the book will be available for purchase.  Coffee Hours are free and open to the public. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Thomas T. Taber Museum will be hosting Donna Spangler to speak on the art of fraktur.  Donna has lived most of her life surrounded by the beauty of the central Pennsylvania mountains and the heritage of the Pennsylvania German culture. It is easy to understand why the traditional fraktur designs—flowers\, birds\, vines and hearts—and the flowing letters of calligraphy have become so much a part of her life and art. “I became interested in the historic art of Fraktur as a hands-on way to blend two core interests in my life – art and history. The traditional designs of the 1700s are my inspiration.”  The talk will take place in the Community Room of the museum.

Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will host its Coffee Hour on Thursday\, September 11 at 10am\, with a talk by Carol Sones Shetler on the cultural history of handkerchiefs.  Carol Sones Shetler is a retired writer\, having written for the Muncy Luminary and West Branch Life for twenty-three years. Handkerchieves are sometimes employed in the creation of quilts. Often embellished with embroidery or edged with lace\, crocheting or tatting\, they are not only a necessity\, but also provided a fashion statement for the person who carried it. \nThe lecture will be held in the Community Room of the Taber Museum and is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will be hosting a lecture by Amanda Owen on Sunday\, September 21\, 2025 at 2pm. Amanda Owen is the Executive Director of the Justice Bell Foundation\, a nonprofit organization located in Ardmore\, in Delaware County. “Our mission is to educate\, inspire and mobilize current and future voters. As part of our mission\, we present an inspiring Pennsylvania story about the Justice Bell\, an icon of the women’s suffrage movement\, to the public.” The Justice Bell traveled through Lycoming County August 11 and 12\, 1915\, promoting women’s voting rights. \nThe lecture\, held in the Community Room of the museum\, is free and open to the public. The program is sponsored by Catherine Burns Insurance Agency\, Muncy and co-sponsored by historian Mary Sieminski and the James V. Brown Library.   During the afternoon\, the 19-minute documentary\, Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women’s Fight for the Vote will be shown.

SUMMARY:Trick or Treating at the Taber Museum
DESCRIPTION:An afternoon of trick-or-treating at the Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will be held on Saturday\, October 25\, 2025 from 1 until 3pm. The museum is located at 858 West Fourth Street\, Williamsport. The program is free and open to the public but pre-registration is strongly suggested. \nTrick-or-treaters (aged 12 or younger) will be encouraged to visit the museum accompanied by an adult. Guides will be stationed throughout the museum and will share a short segment on the history of the area\, food traditions\, or the role of children during a particular period of history. Treats will be distributed to the children in attendance. Children are encouraged to come in costume and bring a bag in which to gather treats. \nRegistration may be accomplished by emailing at info@tabermuseum.org or by telephoning 570.326.3326. There is ample parking in back of the museum or on the street.

The Society partners with the Vintage Gatherers Quilters\, who\, together\, have become a group under the auspices of the Quilts of Valor Foundation®. The Quilt of Valor effort involves local quilters who provide quilts to honor veterans and service members who have been touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. The presentation and program will be held in the Muncy Baptist Church\, 11 West Penn Street\, Muncy\, PA.\nImmediately following the veteran presentations\, Pat Jordan will perform her dramatic portrayal of Carrie Chapman Catt\, an American women’s suffrage leader who campaigned for the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution\, which gave U.S women the right to vote in 1920. Jordan’s Catt presentation is an entertaining and highly researched one-woman play about the woman who led an army of voteless women in 1919 to pressure Congress to pass the constitutional amendment giving them the right to vote and convinced state legislatures to ratify it in 1920. \nhttps://www.muncyhistoricalsociety.org
